84 Spires

Come and meet artist Steve Messam and help him build 84 two-foot high mini spires for installation on Barnwell Country Park lakes over the weekend of the 6th and 7th August.

Free events (car parking charges apply)

• Artist talk at St Peters Church: Thursday 4th August 7.30pm
• Family workshop event at Barnwell Country Park: Friday 5th August 10am – 4pm
• 84 Spires art installation on Barnwell Lakes:  Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th August

84 Spires will be a temporary art installation on a lake.

The piece is a prelude to the much larger SevenSpires and NeneNine artworks to be installed on the Oxford Canal outside Braunston 18-29th August and along a mile stretch of the river around Oundle later in the year.

Steve’s exciting art installations explore the relationship between the county’s waterways and lakes and Northamptonshire’s reputation as ‘the county of Squires and Spires’  84 Spires is a direct reference to the number of church spires that still exist in the county.

Steve Messam is an environmental artist based in the north of England. With his site-specific installations, he sets visual accents in rural or urban settings, which include historical relics and vacant architecture that make us perceive the familiar environment in a new way.

Steve is also giving a free talk about his work and Seven Spires and NeneNine proposals at St Peters Church on Thursday 4th August from 7.30pm which is open to all.
