Opening of Becket’s Park Marina
April – July
Becket’s Park, Northampton
Becket’s Park is at the heart of two navigations – the River Nene and the Grand Union Canal – and is perfectly placed to attract visitors to the town. The £2.15M development with help transform this area of Northampton creating a new leisure facility within a short walk of the town centre. It will include:
• An 80 berth Marina with associated facilities, including electricity, potable water, security lighting, pump-out and Elsan facilities, and rubbish disposal points
• A Waterways Management Office and Marina Manager
• Short term vehicular access for off-loading by boat users It is envisaged that of the 80 moorings, 6 will be residential and the rest a mixture of permanent and visitor moorings.
Work on the facilities building is due to be completed by the end of July and the site will then be fully opened in time for the Northampton River Festival. Boats will be able to access their allocated berths from Good Friday (22 April 2011).
The Northampton Marina Project is being undertaken by the Becket’s Park Partnership – the Environment Agency, Northampton Borough Council, the River Nene Regional Park, Northamptonshire County Council and West Northamptonshire Development Corporation as the first phase of the Becket’s Park Masterplan.
